ADSL
ADSL ē-dī-esu-eru
An older broadband technology that sends data over a copper telephone line. Major Japanese consumer ADSL services have ended or are being retired.
ADSL speed falls with copper-line length and noise and is far below current fibre. If a rental listing or old document still says ADSL, verify what service is actually active; the socket may now be used only for analogue telephone or VDSL inside a building.
Replacement choices include fibre, CATV, a mobile home router or another locally available fixed wireless service. Do not assume an old ADSL modem can be reused.
