Which procedure do you need?

Answer up to four yes / no questions. This does not collect any personal data.

When you go to a Japanese phone shop or apply online, the first thing that decides everything else is which procedure you actually need. People often ask for the wrong one and waste a trip.

  • New contract — a brand-new line, usually with a new phone number.
  • MNP — move to a different carrier and keep your current number.
  • Device upgrade — stay with your carrier and number, get a new phone.
  • SIM change — same carrier, number and phone, only the SIM changes (for example physical SIM to eSIM).
  • Plan change — stay with the same carrier or brand group, change only the pricing plan. This is not the same as MNP.

The four short questions below (yes / no) point you to the right one. No personal data is collected.
