Smartphone class
スマホ教室 sumaho kyōshitsu
A short lesson, usually free and run by a carrier or a local government, that teaches smartphone basics — calls and messaging, camera, maps, cashless payment, video calls, security and scam awareness.
Carrier shops run beginner and topic-based sessions, often 30–60 minutes, sometimes one-to-one; local governments and community centres also hold them. They are aimed at first-time and older users but are open to anyone, and some venues can arrange support in easier Japanese. Booking ahead is usual because places are limited.
A class is not a substitute for after-sales support on your own contract or device fault, and staff running a class will not normally process contract changes. If your goal is help setting up a phone you just bought, ask about the shop's paid initial-setup service instead; if it is learning how to use features, the class is the right place.
